Welcome to Exchange City, where the population is comprised of fifth- and sixth-grade citizens who collectively keep the city operating and thriving, from the mayor's office and the police department to the news media and the business community.

During the Exchange City experience, 5th and 6th grade students manage all aspects of the careers and functions of their very own city. They make their own laws and run their own financial institution, newspaper, retail shops, post office, broadcast company, radio station, snack shop and city hall.

The 40 hours of classroom preparation and follow-up, along with the daylong Exchange City site visit, teaches and reinforces the democratic, economic and entrepreneurial concepts that are the cornerstones of the free enterprise system.
